Diggy diggy hole

Some of the deepest and most dangerous mining operations in Stavrakis are run by unrelenting squat prospectors.

Whereas they are not as harsh as some of the other major mining planets of the cluster were lack of breathable atmosphere or acid rains may transform the mines and quarries into death traps, Stavrakis still pose a major threat.
Normally, lowlifes and the poorest and direst men come to the mines well within in the Stavrakis jungles, known as deep-cores or crust-transitional-holes for their deepness into the planet crust, sometimes just above the mantle. In these conditions, many crews lose their lives not by the normal perils of working with falling rocks, dangerous machinery, faulty equipment, but because the wild fauna of Stavrakis has found its place even in such hellish conditions of the ‘underdark’. As well as the fauna and flora from the surface, the animals found in the deepness are savage and fierce, territorial in nature or sometimes vicious carnivores.
This is, however, a fitting ecosystem for the ‘squat’ mining guilds and crews.
They face discrimination from the rest of the imperial society while tolerated by the Administratum as they’re considered sanctioned abhumans. That doesn’t improve their possibility to get what is an already horrible working condition as other citizens of the imperium get. But they often found their ways with the works they’re better suited to, like mining and engineering operations deep under the surface of Stavrakis.

The mining syndicates recommend that the prospection teams runs at least some armed guardsmen just in case they found the local fauna or get into a hard diplomatic situation with other crews.
While not as well or heavily equipped such as other ‘squat’ societies like the ones from Vildigor or Necromunda, many of the crews in the Buzhou Cluster runs lightly armored or even working suit-dressed operators without weapons except for some guarding operators equipped with short-range equipment.

This comes handy when the occasional stavrakian vile-worm is the reason of the faulty equipment and lost of communications with the previous shift.

A small batch of Northstar figures dwarfs from the Stargrave: Last Prospector bundle, a Citadel servitor and several worms from Reaper Bones for some ttrpg play.
